Ciel hadn’t been told that Elizabeth was coming over, or that she was already there. Then again the blonde had a habit of dropping over unannounced, whether it was by her sneaking away to do so or not. So either way, a pleasant face had to be put on for his fiancee’s sake, which is exactly what Ciel did as he came from the drawing room next to the front foyer, bracing himself for a rambunctious hug.
Elizabeth, you didn’t tell me you were coming over for the afternoon…
Waiting in the lounge of Ciel’s manor was dull, exhausting work for Elizabeth. None of the books were any fun to read, what with their big blocks of monotonous text and lack of pretty pictures. Lizzie was shocked that Ciel could even fathom such creations! As the minutes ticked on, she grew tired of waiting, and was about ready to up-and-leave when she heard that familiarly smooth voice echo through the doorway.
“Ciel!” She bounded over to him, disregarding any previous notions of leaving. Immediately upon seeing him, all thoughts and teachings of propriety vanished, and the boy was soon enveloped in her arms. Oh, how she had missed him! “It’s been so very long— Oh, don’t tell me you’ve grown taller than I! That can’t be true, can it?” Her words were playful and teasing, but kind nonetheless.
Ciel on the other hand had purposes for most of those books, whether it be for his work with Funtom, the Queen, his studies, or his own personal enjoyment. Having pictures normally detracted away from the text inside, unless the pictures were supplementary somehow, and the brighter they were the less of a purpose they would often serve. Ciel had been in his study the entire time that Elizabeth had been there, completely unaware of her presence until Sebastian got away from the other servants to tell him as much. By that point Ciel made a bit of haste for the room she was in, hoping the miscommunication wouldn’t be relayed back to his future mother in law; Frances didn’t need reason more to nag Ciel about his behavior or appearance or the like.
Knowing how Elizabeth operated, Ciel had a couple odd moments to brace himself for the normally overbearing hug and the momentum behind it. Once it came, both his arms wound gently around her waist for a moment before lightly but firmly pushing her away.

No, I don’t believe I’ve grown taller than you yet, it’s not been years since I last saw you, simply a few weeks. Did your mother send you over or did you come over on your own accord?
